Deceiving domain - search.searchquicks.com
Search.searchquicks.com is the URL that is set on Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox, as soon as a potentially unwanted program - QuickSearch - is installed on the system. The app changes web browser settings without permission in order to direct users to sponsored content that the developers monetize - the more infected users click on affiliated links or are shown ads, the more the profit margin increases.
Search.searchquicks.com uses typical browser hijacker techniques, including:
- Redirecting all searches to another provider, i.e., Yahoo;
- Showing sponsored links at the top of search results;
- Spying on users by collecting data about their web browsing activities;
- Implanting cookies and other tracking technologies into the installed web browsers.
Additionally, Search.searchquicks.com does not provide any legal documents like Privacy Policy or Terms of service. Instead, the page shows an error, although it is not related to internet connection problems, expired certificates, or other issues, as the error message was placed deliberately. Due to the lack of Privacy Policy, it is impossible to determine what type of information is gathered by the developer and what type of security measures are (not) taking place.
